CALCULATION OF PROPULSION CHARACTERISTICS OF A TANKER USING DIFFERENT PROPELLER MODELS

A viscous solver is applied to calculate the propulsion parameters of a tanker moving at a low Froude number. The propeller is represented by either a simplified actuator disk or a lifting line model and different approaches are followed to calculate the effective wake fraction and the required DHP. The sensitivity of obtained results is examined with respect to various approximations that are made to calculate the self-propulsion characteristics.
