An automatic system for the meausrement of chosen parameters determining the state of the natural environment is described in the paper. The system is designed for monitoring water and land areas. The task is fulfilled by periodic measurements and the recording of chosen, physical and chemical parameters of water and air. The system consists of automatic unmanned units: water and atmosphere stations, centres for control of clusters, checking subcentres collecting and processing the information. A high level supervision over the whole system is realized by a central control unit. The paper is mainly concerned with the organization of the systems for measurements, the system for communication, the system for supervision and the system of collecting information. The possibilities of applying the automatic system for environment monitoring, of extending the systems as wells as variations of the system components for particular purposes are described.
