CLT PROPELLER: TEST AND MARKET RESULTS

The orange juice carrier BEBEDOURO endured hull vibrations excited by the second order unbalanced forces and moments of the engine. The vibration levels were significantly reduced by installing an electric balancer in the steering gear room. However some hull vibrations of the 4th order appeared. To reduce the vibration levels excited by the propeller the owners decided to install a CLT propeller which would also result in fuel saving. The article discusses the results of speed trials conducted with conventional and with CLT propellers.
