EVALUATION OF SHIP PROPULSION SYSTEM FOR A 19000 DWT, 18 KN, CONTAINERSHIP

In this paper an attempt is made to obtain an optimal solution for the propulsion system of a 19000 DWT, 18 Kn, containership, with four different alternatives. Not only technical parameters but also economical aspects are taken into consideration. By applying the multi-criteria method and choosing the eighteen criteria, general system efficiency of each solution is calculated. Although the accuracy of this method depends on the designer and values are functions of time, it can be a useful method during the first phase of design.
