SERVICE LIFE RELIABILITY ANALYSIS FOR AN ANCHOR SYSTEM SUBJECT TO CORROSION

A reliability assessment is performed for the anchor system of a semisubmersible production unit. The probability of line failure due to overload is estimated, also accounting for the effect of corrosion. The increase of failure probability as a function of time in operation is established. By specifying a target level for the failure probability, the anticipated service life of the anchor system is determined. A number of sensitivity studies are performed in order to investigate the variation in service life for different assumptions with respect to basic input parameters. The following variations are considered: (i) improved strength properties, (ii) unfavourable calculation model (iii) reduced uncertainty for corrosion rage and (iv) alternative form of failure function.
