FATIGUE/FRACTURE RELIABILITY AND MAINTAINABILITY ANALYSIS OF THE HEIDRUN TLP TETHER SYSTEM
The Heidrun TLP tether system, subjected to operational oscillatory tensile loads, is vulnerable to fatigue and fracture. Because of uncertainties in loads and strengths, a reliability approach is employed to quantify structural performance and to verify integrity. Improvement in reliability can be accomplished with a maintenance program of periodic inspection and repair. Results of a reliability analysis indicate that the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate requirements relating to load bearing structures are satisfied. Effects of uncertainties in defining system parameters are also studied.
