RECENT ADVANCES IN CLASSIFICATION RULES FOR DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF SHIP HULL STRUCTURES

Classification rules have been one of the main resources available to naval architects for evaluation of commercial ship structures. They have also been used, against their intent, for design. This paper summarizes the recent development of non- prescriptive classification rules, which represents the desired trend for design and evaluation of the hull structures of commercial vessels.
