25 YEARS OF FAST CATAMARAN FERRIES

This article traces the history of fast catamaran ferries which began in Norway in 1970 when a Norwegian company was seeking a craft design that could achieve high speed but would give improved seakeeping capability and reliability, coupled with simplicity. The catamaran surfaced as the solution and 25 years later the catamaran concept has over 60% of the high speed ferry market and almost all built in corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys.
