CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SOME ASSUMPTIONS USED FOR THE DESIGN OF COLLISION PROTECTION BARRIERS OF SHIPS

Minorsky's classical method for the analysis of ship collisions does not give appropriate directions for the evaluation of the extent of the damages. In this paper, with reference to an actual case of ship collision and through a systematic approach, a predictive model for damages has been set up, which is consistent with the absorbed energy. Nevertheless, some geometrical inconsistencies with actual deformations show that further adjustments are necessary.
