EVALUATION OF WELL HEAD LOADS: A CASE STUDY

An alternative approach for the evaluation of subsea wellhead extreme static loads for the drilling and completion phases has been developed. The key parameter for application of the method is the angle at the flexjoint during the drilling or completion operation. A detailed structural riser analysis is not required, instead only global riser information is necessary in order to determine the actual and effective tensions at the flexjoint. A rigid model approach was also investigated.
