A THEORETICAL STUDY OF THE CAPSIZE OF THE FERRY HERALD OF FREE ENTERPRISE

A simplified mathematical model has been established for time- domain simulation of capsize scenarios for ro/ro vessels such as the HERALD OF FREE ENTERPRISE. The capsize can be studies as a consequence of the interaction between heeling and turning motion. The influence of different parameters has been studies. The result shows that quantity of water on G deck before heeling, ingress rage of water, ship speed, hull form and KG-value are the main parameters governing the capsize scenario.
