MEASURED AND PREDICTED DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF MONOTOWER PLATFORM SUBJECTED TO RANDOM WAVES

The object of this paper is to verify the wave induced platform response predicted by means of the frequency domain, spectral analysis technique. For that purpose comparisons are made of response statistics determined theoretically on the basis of observed wave data, with the corresponding statistics obtained from measurements carried out on an operating STAR platform. In order to achieve a proper correlation, importance is attached to the estimation of the structural damping, and the effect of the directional energy spreading of each short term sea state is investigated.
