NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF FLOW AROUND A SHIP HULL WITH RUDDER IN SELF PROPULSION CONDITION

This paper presents numerical simulations of flow around a tanker with the rudder in the self propulsion condition. The viscous flow field around the ship hull and the rudder is numerically evaluated by solving the Navier-Stokes equations with the assumption of pseudo-compressibility. The propeller effect is considered using equivalent body force distribution. The propeller body force is evaluated through an infinitely bladed propeller theory. Computed results are compared with the experimental data and the effectiveness of the method is shown.
