FLOATING PRODUCTION SYSTEMS GAIN FAVOUR

The use of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels to develop UK offshore oil fields looks certain to increase. The design features of a FPSO vessel are described. The operation of PETROJARL 1 (generally considered to be the first standard FPSO vessel to produce a UK offshore field entirely) during its leasing to several companies since 1991 is described. Also reviewed are several projects using company owned vessels.
