Denmark shortly expects to enact legislation, enabling it to ratify the 1992 Protocols. This will amend the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (1969), and the International Convention on the Establishment of an International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage (1971). Finland, Norway and Sweden will enact identical legislation. At the same time Denmark will also ratify the 1989 International Convention on Salvage, while this will take a bit longer in the other Scandinavian countries. This article briefly describes the main characteristics and benefits of the existing instruments and the amendments the new instruments introduce.
