DOWN-TO-EARTH BOX SHIP SUITS MAJOR LINER OPERATOR

The 3,469TEU CHESAPEAKE BAY, which has recently been delivered to Hamburg owner Claus-Peter Offen Reederei, is the largest of the FW series of containerships to come from German yard Flender Werft. There are seven holds, six of them forward of the eight-level superstructure. They stow 42.5% of the total capacity, 11-wide and seven-high amidhsips; three-high aft, above the engine room. Holds no 1 and 2 are fitted for carrying dangerous cargo and provided with special firefighting and segregated draining arrangements for dealing with contaminated slops.
