Flexibility in design to cope with rapid changes in the world political situations is a prime requirement for modern submarines. The 'Moray'-class is designed to comply with a variety of naval staff targets. With that objective the 'Moray' has a displacement in the 1,200-1,900t range, but its design is also linked with the successful preceding submarine designs of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
