IACS: AUDITING THE ISM CODE
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Ship Management (ISM) Code becomes mandatory under SOLAS by 1 June 1998; but many maritime administrations will start to enforce it earlier. This article gives the response of the International Association of Classification Societies to questions asked on the implementation of the code: Who will do the auditing? Will the auditors interpret the requirements in a uniform way throughout the world? How will they be trained?
