THE ANZAC SHIP PROJECT
The ANZAC ship project comprises the delivery of ten frigate type ships to the Australian and New Zealand Navy. The MEKO 200 design originated by Blohm and Voss, German, incorporates as a worldwide first application a CODOG cross-connect gear system installation with a frigate type ship. This arrangement, wherein the gas turbine full speed mode only, one gas turbine is driving both propellers simultaneously, has been chosen for the sake fuel cost saving and weight reduction. The article gives an overview of the arrangement and modes of operation.
