INCREASING PASSENGER NUMBERS LEAD TO BOOM IN CRUISE SHIP NEWBUILDING ORDERS

The number of cruise ship passengers has increased since 1988 and it is forecast that the trend is set to continue, with increases in demand in 1995, 1996 and 1997 put at 8%, 10% and 12% respectively. According to the latest figures, 23 new cruise ships are currently on order. The cruise ship industry is dominated by four shipyards, Fincantieri, Kvaerner Masa-Yards, Chantiers de l'Atlantique and Meyer Werft. This article looks at some recent orders and deliveries at these yards.
