Three offshore patrol vessels are under construction for the French Navy. The first of the trio of OPV54s, FLAMANT, was launched in April at CMN who are also building the third of class. The second vessel, CORMORAN, was launched from the Leroux & Lodz Lorient shipyard in May. Steel-hulled, featuring a RIB slipway with transom gate, with light alloy superstructure, the OPV54 has length oa/bp of 54/49m, a 10m beam giving a healthy 1:4.9 beam:length ratio and a 2.75m draught with resulting full load displacement of 350t. Leroux & Lodz also has orders for four of its OPV64 range of craft for the Royal Moroccan Navy. The OPV64, which can be configured to operate a helicopter is of similar form to its smaller sister and with steel hull and light alloy superstructure. Lengths on deck and bp are 64/6m, the beam overall 11.40m and the draught 3m, standard/full load displacements are 580/650t.
