This paper is a follow up to a previous paper 'Development of the TriCat' which was presented at the 10th Fast Ferry Conference. That paper described the design philosophy and market forces that led to the 45 metre TriCat. This paper is in the nature of a mid term report on the TriCat project, it covers the build and trials of Universal 2001, the first of class vessel. During construction of the craft a development programme was undertaken to establish the use of new materials and methods of construction with the aim of product improvement, progress achieved is reported and future targets outlined. Finally the trials programme and the results achieved for the first 45 metre TriCAt, which will enter service on the Hong Kong Macao route, are described.
