GEARED SHIPS GRAB GLOBAL TRADE

To third world countries, or ports without their own cargo handling facilities, geared multipurpose bulk carriers are the means by which they can receive containerised, palletised, and breakbulk goods from the industrialised nations. Other vessels are equipped to carry several different types of dry bulk raw materials and products. Most specialised of all are the self-unloading ships designed for use in one particular trade, normally the owners' business. This article describes some of the cargo carrying and cargo handling facilities on some recent newbuildings.
