LIFE CYCLE COST OPEN NON-TRADITIONAL MARKETS - CATERPILLAR 3600 ENGINES

Design features of the Caterpillar 3600 engine developed through engineering analysis and unique material properties have contributed to its rapid acceptance in the non-traditional engine markets for locomotives and fast vessels. These design features in components like the cylinder head have been validated in field service. Life cycle costing combined with competitive power density levels strongly influence market acceptance in these fields. Future design changes based on emerging technologies will maintain the lower life cycle costs and improve the power density of the 3600 engines.
