THE NEW AMERICA'S CUP RULE - A SEARCH FOR THE PERFORMANCE EDGE

America's Cup races held in May 1992 featured a new type of monohull sail boat. Characteristics of the new breed of yacht are examined, as determined by the new International America's Cup Class Rule, and as evidenced by the first year's contestants. Limitations and "loopholes" of the rule are discussed, with special emphasis on hull shape and proportions, keel and rudder geometries, and hull structure.
