CANADIAN LEAD MCDV NEARS COMPLETION
Canada's new 55m class Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDV) are described. The requirement for the twelve vessels was a multi-role design incorporating MCM capabilities and a high Naval Reserve training capability. As a cost saving measure it was decided to build in steel and to reduce the risk to personnel in the MCM role by developing a remote minehunting system - such being increasingly sought even for more expensive magnetic platforms. A profile and deck plan of the MCDV is included in the article.
