AN OUTSTANDING NEW OPV FOR MAURITIUS

Construction of a stealth-contoured 75m helicopter-carrying OPV has started at ASMAR's Naval Shipyard Division in Chile for the island of Mauritius. The requirement was for an advanced vessel to patrol out the EEZ having both a high-speed and loiter capability with a good weapon-weight provision together with superior range and endurance enhanced by the ability to operate a helicopter. Space was required to accommodate a military detachment or 100 survivors apart from the ship's complement of 58, as well as a hold for the stowage of anti-pollution equipment and chemicals. A profile drawing of the vessel is given.
