THREE-DIMENSIONAL FRACTURE MECHANICS APPROACH TO FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR OF SURFACE CRACKS AT THE TOE OF T-TUBULAR JOINT

In this study, 3-D FEM analyses are performed for the warped surface cracks at the toe of offshore T-tubular joints, 6869 degrees of freedom are used in the mesh, and the half-bandwidth of the FEM equations is 1187. Stress intensity factors KI, KII, and KIII along crack fronts are calculated by the displacement method. Fatigue crack growth behaviour was investigated by the use of so-called crack growth characteristic curves. The predicted results are in agreement with experimental results.
