ON THE MECHANISM OF CAVITATION EROSION

Recent measurements of erosion rate, sonoluminescence intensity, noise and electrochemical potential variation due to cavitation in water lead to suggest that cavitation erosion is due both to thermo-mechanical and to electrochemical effects. The mechanisms that explain this hypothesis are discussed in some detail on an experimental basis.
