REGAL VOYAGER UNDERGOES MAJOR CONVERSION

The passenger/ro/ro cargo ferry REGAL VOYAGER has undergone extensive conversion work at the INMA shipyard at La Spezia, Italy. The yard has built a completely new superstructure deck, new wheelhouse and new accommodation/living arrangements for passengers. A number of other structural alterations have also been carried out to suit the vessel for her new service in the Mediterranean. This work involved cutting away the whole of the existing deck 6 to give additional headroom for the carriage of trailers. In addition, the existing car deck (deck 4) has been dismounted to give space for trailers on the garage deck (deck 3). Access to deck 3 is by means of an existing stern ramp, and by a new bow ramp/door and bow visor. The garage deck 5 is accessed by a new cargo elevator of 64 tons capacity capable of accommodating two 32 ton trailers simultaneously. The article describes the installation of the new bow ramp/door, bow visor and cargo elevator.
