SYNTHETIC OIL SAVES COSTS

A Latvian shipping company has reported an estimated saving of $265.00 in one year since switching 84 reciprocating air compressors from a high quality mineral oil to a synthetic oil. Before deciding to switch to the synthetic lubricant, the company conducted an 18-month test on two of its ship to compare the performance of the synthetic oil with a competitive mineral oil. The testing confirmed that the synthetic lubricant reduced maintenance costs, eliminated excessive and costly compressor failures, and greatly extended oil drain intervals. The number of man-hours needed to maintain and clean the compressors was also reduced by as much as 15 times.
