HYDROELASTIC ANALYSIS OF NONLINEAR WAVE-INDUCED LOADS OF SHIP HULL

The hydroelastic analysis method is applied to investigate the structural responses (motions, shearing forces, bending moments etc) of ships travelling in regular and irregular head waves. A modified strip theory is proposed to describe the hydrodynamic forces, in which the non-linear effects arising from the non-vertical bow flare, the instantaneous variation of draft and the non-harmonic behaviour of sectional motions are included. The effects due to wave impact, bow emergence, and deck wetness are also considered. The equations of motion are solved in time domain by the step-by-step approach. The numerical predictions are compared with the model tests in regular waves. Satisfactory agreement is achieved.
