RELIABILITY AND PERFORMANCE OF OFFSHORE STRUCTURES - IMPLICATIONS OF RECENT RESEARCH

The paper describes ongoing research concerned with the structural performance and reliability of offshore platforms. The nature of structural failure is discussed, in the light of previous experience, including the failures observed during Hurricane Andrew. Studies on the reliability of structural components, designed to current codes are also described, as well as the overall reliability of the structure through for example push-over analyses and consideration of reserve strength.
