SAFETY ANALYSIS OF NEARSHORE, OPEN-DECKED FISHING VESSELS IN NOVA SCOTIA
Traditional nearshore fishing boats (Cape Boats) in Nova Scotia are the subject of a survivability analysis study. The study is being carried out for the Canadian Coast Guard who are interested in how the dynamic stability of this class of boat is affected by the shipping of green water into the large open deck. This paper describes Nova Scotia's coastal sea environment; the Cape Boat's hullform; the methodology used in the seakeeping and safety analysis; and it presents some results of the work to date, involving a combination of scale model tests, full-scale seakeeping tests, and computer simulations of boat motions using computational hydrodynamics techniques.
