MEASUREMENT OF ENCOUNTERED WAVES AND SHIP MOTIONS DURING FULL SCALE SEAKEEPING TRIALS

A measurement system has been developed for recording the encountered waves and ship motions during seakeeping trials. The system consists of accelerometers, angular rate sensors, a wave radar and a PC for data logging and analysis. The measured motions are used for determining the six global motion components of the vessel. The non-linear, iterative analysis is based on the FFT integration technique. Final results are time records, spectra and statistics of motions and waves. The system has been successfully used for seakeeping trials on fast naval vessels.
