QUICK DOCKING; REVERSING THE DECLINE IN THE TROUBLED SHIP REPAIR SECTOR

The quick and effective maintenance of vessels, also known as quick docking, is the concept with which the Rotterdam Municipal Port Management want to reverse the decline in the troubled ship repair sector. A study into quick docking has been conducted in association with five shipyards in the region. The key to the concept is an environment-friendly method for the removal of coats of old paint and rust patches from vessels' hulls and for applying new paint. The concept has been thoroughly investigated and it is expected that the service can be guaranteed at a competitive price. Another objective is the improvement of working conditions.
