IMPROVED PERFORMANCE FROM SCHILLING MARINER RUDDER

In response to IMO's interim manoeuvrability standards a UK based rudder specialist has introduced a semi-spade or 'Mariner' rudder. Large scale free-sailing model tests conducted on 100 000dwt tankers are said to have demonstrated that both overshoot angles and turning circle qualities are significantly improved with the new rudder compared with a conventional Mariner rudder.
