CARMEN DELORES H.: TAILOR-MADE REEFER CONTAINER VESSEL FOR MEDITERRANEAN-CANARY ISLANDS TRADE

Shipyard De Hoop Lobith B.V., The Netherlands, recently completed a tailor-made container vessel for the Spanish shipping operator Pinillos. The vessel CARMEN DOLORES H. is a tailor- made vessel specially designed for the carriage of fruit cargo commodities. The design of the vessel features a pronounced Vee- shaped forward hull form with mainly flat or single curvature plates minimizing the hull envelope around the containers. In contrast, the aft end is U-shaped with the hull's full width continued almost to the aft perpendicular with propeller shaft and gear box fitted in a central gondola. This somewhat unusual hull form offers an excellent stability, which is particularly beneficial when carrying deck cargo. Principal particulars of the vessel are: propulsion Wartsila 9R46B length, overall 135.61m length, between perpendiculars 125.72 m breadth, moulded 20.50m draught, summer 8.25m tonnage, deadweight 11,007t speed, trial 19.3 knots container capacity 758 TEU
