THE ONSET OF STREAMWISE VORTICAL STRUCTURE AND THE EARLY FEATURES OF COHERENT STRUCTURE BEHIND A 2-D CIRCULAR CYLINDER
The generation of streamwise vortical structure in the turbulent wake behind a 2-D circular cylinder is studies numerically by analysing the instability evolution of initially 2-D spanwise Karman vortex filaments and vortex filaments in braid regions of the wake based on vortex dynamics. A kind of 3-D vortex system consisting of large scale horseshoe-shaped vortices and small scale -shaped vortex filaments as well as vortex loops are presented. The mechanism and the dynamic process about the formation of streamwise vortex structure and the coherent structure are reported.
