CARS - DESIGNED TO A FAULT

The article discusses design faults and shortcomings found in current design cars following the publication by the automobile association of its findings on 31358 vehicles between 8 weeks and 8 years old. A wide range of aspects are discussed and include poor quality sealing materials, rust proofing and brake pipes, the advantages of modern oils, better detail design needed of such components as fasteners, engine mountings and gear change mechanisms, suspension and steering joint life, and, valve train and cam problems through inadequate case hardening processes. /TRRL/
