MODELS FOR SELECTION PROCESSES AND ACTIVITIES PATTERNS: SOME RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

MODELLEN VOOR KEUZEPROCESSEN EN AKTIVITEITENPATRONEN: ENKELE RECENTE ONTWIKKELINGEN

This research report presents the main results of a literature review concerning recent advances in modelling individual choice behaviour and activity patterns. Although the literature review involved many different disciplines and fields of application, most interest is paid in modelling destination and route choice behaviour. Five modelling approaches are considered: discrete choice models based on real world observations of actual behaviour; stated preference and choice models; qualitative models; activity based models and hazard models. The results of the literature survey suggest that recent advances have mostly involved the stated preference and choice approach, activity based models and only very recently also hazard models. Stronger and weaker aspects of the various modelling approaches are discussed.
