EVALUATION OF THE PROFIT OF CAR-POOL AREAS

EVALUATIE RENDEMENT CARPOOLPLEINEN

During the end of 1993 a study was carried out to evaluate the profit of car-pool areas in the Netherlands. In 1983 only 44 car-pool areas existed, against 264 in 1993. All these 264 areas have been studied for their location, dimension, use, management, provisions, efficiency, region, quality, cost-benefit, lighting, the presence of a call-box and safety. Car drivers, cyclists, and users of public transport were interviewed. In general, the users of the car-pool areas are contented with the areas, negative points are the lighting, the shelters and in some areas the maintenance. In average, the areas cost about 150.000 Dutch guilders. During the last 5 years about 25 million Dutch guilders were invested in these areas. The profit of these investments is reasonable, because users of car pool areas have driven 60 million kilometers less per year.
