THE POLITICS OF REDUCING VEHICLE EMISSIONS IN BRITAIN AND GERMANY

This book analyses the emergence of European Community regulations with reference to both British and German policy on the conversion of European vehicles to catalytic emission control technology, rather than the lean burn engine. Differences in perception, interests and national priorities account for a conflict which this book suggests Britain lost. Close scrutiny of these divergent policies shows how they created considerable obstacles to European economic integration, and also provides important insights into different approaches to environmental regulation.
