ENVIRONMENT ACT 199. CHAPTER 25

This document contains the text of the UK's Environment Act 1995. Part I provides for the establishment of two new Agencies: (1) the Environment Agency, with jurisdiction in England and Wales; and (2) the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, with jurisdiction in Scotland. It also has provisions about the functions, property, rights, and liabilities of these bodies. Part II concerns contaminated land and abandoned ines. Part III concerns national parks. Part IV concerns air quality, including: (1) national air quality strategy; (2) functions of the new Agencies; (3) local authority reviews; (4) designation of air quality management areas; and (5) duties of local authorities in relation to designated areas. Part V contains miscellaneous, general and supplemental provisions, Part IV is that part of the Act most relevant to transport, especially road transport, but it does not explicitly mention specific causes of air pollution, such as those caused by exhaust emissions of road vehicles. Also relevant to transport are the general functions of the two new Agencies with respect to pollution control. )
