A SURVEY OF URBANIZATION CONCEPTS, PART 1 AND 2

VERKENNING VERSTEDELINGSCONCEPTEN, DEEL I EN II

Urbanization and mobility are much related to each other. Spatial developments have a great influence to the need of and the load on the infrastructure for the different transport modes. On the other side, the infrastructure has a clear structural effect on the development of the different spatial activities such as the location of dwelling, places of work and provisions. A good attuning of the planning for the environment and the infrastucture is important for an effective traffic and transport policy. The central government wants to have a say in the discussions about the future policy of urbanization. Therefore, a study has been made to those concepts which can be a guiding principle for the urbanization after the year 2005, from the point of view of the central government. This report presents some of the concepts, and in particular those for the Ring of Cities in the central part of The Netherlands.
