OPINIONS AND MOTIVES REGARDING THE USE OF THE CAR IN COMMUTING TRAFFIC
MENINGEN EN MOTIEVEN TEN AANZIEN VAN AUTOGEBRUIK VOOR WOON-WERKVERKEER
An intervieuw was held to map out the opinions and motives of cardrivers to use the different transport modes for their journey to work. The respondents were divided in three subgroups: non car users, car users living less than 11 kilometers of their working place, and car users living on a greater distance from their place of work. The difference between the last two groups is relevant because a distance of 10 kilometer can be made by bicycle. The results of the study show that the motives for using the car in commuting traffic are very positive. For almost all important estimated aspects, also for the non car users, the car is the best. At the same time the opinions on the public transport are so negative, that the change from the car to public transport can not be expected on the short time. Stimulation of the use of the bicycle for the short trip and carpooling by car users for the greater journeys has the greatest chance to succeed.
