EXPERIMENTAL SURVEILLANCE BY THE POLICE ON DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED IN THE REGION OF LEIDEN

EXPERIMENTEEL POLITIETOEZICHT OP RIJDEN ONDER INVLOED IN DE LEIDSE SUBREGIO

During October 1988 up to October 1989 inclusive an experiment has been carried out in the region of the city of Leiden on surveillance by the police on driving while intoxicated. In total 7250 breath tests were taken. The main purpose of the experiment was to get a substantial reduction of the percentage of offenders with at least 25%. The means used were a modified way of control and an extra publicity regarding the experiment and driving under the influence of alcohol in general. The report indicates that these kind of police surveillance are more efficient than before and more effective.
