HIGH CAPACITY TRANSIT SYSTEM PLAN FOR SPOKANE: THE LAND USE AND TRANSPORTATION CONNECTION

The High Capacity Transit System Plan was developed for the Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) in Spokane County, Washington. The purpose of the feasibility study and plan was to examine, evaluate, and refine the development potential for high capacity transportation (HCT) facilities and supporting transit oriented land uses. HCT facilities and services include high occupancy vehicle lanes, busways, fixed guideway systems, and commuter rail. General transportation corridors were identified for HCT system development and implementation. They are: Division Street, Interstate 90, South Valley Arterial and North Spokane Freeway. Regional activity centers which were identified as HCT centers include the Spokane CBD, University Center Shopping District, and Liberty Lake.
