THE OVERLAYMENT OF A DISTRESSED CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT: CASE STUDY OF A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT

A project in which a thin, flexible asphalt overlay was successfully used to overcome the potential problems of reflection cracking from a distressed underlying jointed concrete pavement is described. The effect which stripping or loss of adhesion within the asphalt had on its performance is discussed and several lessons learnt during the execution of this innovative project are provided.
