NATIONAL STUDY OF RUTTING OF ASPHALT PAVEMENTS IN SAUDI ARABIA
This paper summarizes the results of the national study of rutting of asphalt pavements in Saudi Arabia. It describes the study sections, the traffic characteristics on these sections, the rutting distress observed and the associated climate characteristics. Asphalt cement properties, aggregate characteristics, mix design parameters and strength and stiffness parameters of cores obtained from the study sections are presented. In addition, the results of the subgrade soil characterization and the nondestructive pavement evaluation of those study sections are also introduced. Recommendations necessary for rut resistant pavements under today's heavy traffic loadings are provided. (A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 873950.
